Kim Hopson: Lead Children's Pastor
Haley Cooper: Children's Pastor, Amarillo Campus
As the Lead Children's Pastor here at First Methodist, I am so excited you are checking out our activities for the children in your life. Your child is a child of God and I invite them to join us. All adults are welcome to sit in with us as well as participate as a leader/volunteer. I’m always looking to add new faces to our children’s ministry team.
“Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.” Psalms 105:4
Purpose: To create a Christ centered environment within the children’s ministry (kids, parents, families, leaders, events) that brings children and families to a relationship with Christ and others. This will be done through lessons and quality fellowship time and activities.
Children’s Mission Statement: To equip children with a biblical foundation that drives a desire to be disciples, transform hearts, lead others to Christ, and seek God daily.
Children’s Vision Statement: I will walk with Christ in all things, be confident in my relationship with Jesus Christ, serve my Lord, and share Him in my community.
As a follower of Christ, we are all called to be SEEKERS. Psalm 105:4 tells us to “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face always in all things.” We are called to be disciples and to transform hearts and lead others to Christ and teach them to seek God. We strive to teach the children who come through our doors a solid, scriptural foundation they can use every day as they seek out a personal relationship with Jesus. You and your child are personally invited to join us in this transformation into great Disciples of Christ. As you continue to read this page, you will find a variety of activities for your child that we offer regularly to support the task God has set before us.
Please have a peace of mind knowing that we set standards very high for our leaders, team members, and nursery staff. Your child will be cared for and nurtured by adults who have hearts for children, hearts for God, possess clear background checks, and pass our Safe Sanctuary training. These last two provide the physical safety for you and your child. We constantly strive to provide to best we can offer!

Sundays 9:40 – 10:40 am
The 5th graders will spend Sunday mornings in the spring semester studying the armor of God, the Methodist hymnal, and what it means to worship, worship responsibilities, and what part it plays in being a disciple.
This study meets in the spring, Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm. This is a church-wide group.
6th graders and older youth with a desire to grow their faith have the opportunity to explore the main tenets of our faith while strengthening their beliefs and relationship with Jesus Christ. At the end of their study these individuals can chose to be confirmed into the church. In addition to Sunday evenings, we will have activities scheduled throughout the semester to expand the knowledge and meaning of being a disciple and finding individual identities.
Meets weekly on Wednesday evenings during school year from 6:15-7:30pm
Wednesday evenings offer fun Christ-centered fellowship for kids of all ages. Each week the kids will engage in activities that encourage and challenge them to live each day as Christ would have us do. They will experience the love of Christ through fellowship, prayer, and missions. Excitement and the adventures of being a disciple will be discovered through games, science, and serving.
3 & 4 year olds (pre-k age group and 5’s not yet in kindergarten)
A group that provides this age group with life applicable lessons that are written specifically for them. At this age, kids are so impressionable and they begin to seek out who they are and what they want in life. We focus on every day living and what God expects from us. We also have loads of fun with arts and crafts, drama, games and fellowship. The kids learn how to serve and help others with a servant’s heart while being in fellowship with Christ in the center.
The 3rd graders have a special study designed to teach them how to use their Bible and at the same time exploring the Old Testament. This is held during the spring semester at 5:00pm on Wednesday evenings.
The 4th graders will continue to learn about the Bible during the fall semester by exploring the New Testament. This is held at 5:00pm Wednesday evenings.
Strengthening families is important. We want to support families by offering a 2 hour reimbursement each week for a date night. A list of sitters can be provided upon request. Reimbursement is also available to small groups meeting other than Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. Date nights and small groups do not have to use the nursery staff, you may use your own sitter.
